About this experience
The Gjirokastër region has a long tradition of woodcarving and icon painting, still visible in the ceilings of old houses and in the area's churches.
In a local master's workshop you see how the wood is prepared and how motifs are drawn and carved by hand. The master also introduces the techniques of iconography: preparing the panel, natural pigments and gold leaf.
After the demonstration you carve a simple motif into a piece of wood yourself and take it home as a keepsake.
